Amid a ‘red alert’ warning, Mumbai faced heavy overnight rains, with the intensity easing by early Sunday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Nashik, and Pune, warning of extremely heavy rainfall.
Parts of South Mumbai received over 100 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, causing traffic disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying areas. The IMD forecasted ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall in Mumbai, with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph.
The red alert extends to coastal districts like Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, along with ghat regions of Nashik. The rest of Maharashtra may experience low-intensity showers. The BMC’s disaster management cell is on high alert, with local train services and buses operating with delays but no diversions.
