Robert Tucker, who is Jewish, submitted his resignation as New York City fire commissioner on Wednesday morning, following Mamdani’s win. Tucker, who was sworn in on his personal Hebrew Bible, will step down on December 19 to return to running a private security firm.

Tucker, appointed commissioner in 2024 after the previous leader’s resignation, expressed his gratitude for serving as the 35th New York City Fire Commissioner. Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is set to take office shortly after Tucker’s departure on December 19.
