Valve has made a significant announcement, unveiling a trio of new hardware devices set to launch in 2026. The lineup includes the highly-anticipated Steam Machine, a compact console for 4K gaming that also functions as a computer. This move marks Valve’s official entry into the console market, positioning them to compete with industry giants like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
The Steam Machine, a concept that has been in development for a decade, is now a reality as Valve’s proprietary gaming hardware under its brand name. It is designed as a compact, cuboid device similar to the Steam Deck but tailored for living room TV gaming. With six times the power of the Steam Deck, the Steam Machine promises an immersive gaming experience with 4K resolution.
Accompanying the Steam Machine are two other exciting releases – the new Steam Controller and the Steam Frame VR headset. These additions aim to enhance the gaming experience and provide users with a comprehensive gaming ecosystem. Sales for these new hardware devices are scheduled to commence in the Spring of 2026, offering gamers a new level of gaming technology and innovation.
Furthermore, the Steam Machine boasts impressive specifications, featuring a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 6C/12T CPU with clocks up to 4.8 GHz and a Semi-Custom AMD RDNA3 28CUs GPU. With a CPU power consumption of 30W TDP, the Steam Machine is poised to deliver top-notch performance and support for the extensive Steam library.
