New Zealand’s Blair Tickner marked a triumphant comeback to international cricket by delivering a stellar performance against England in the 2nd ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton. The right-arm seamer showcased his prowess by claiming four crucial wickets for just 34 runs, aiding in bowling out England for a mere 175 runs.
This remarkable display by Tickner, who was playing his first match since May 2023, saw him achieve his best ODI returns. England’s batting lineup struggled once again, with standout performances from Harry Brook, who was dismissed for 34 runs, and Jamie Overton, who scored 42 runs but couldn’t prevent the team’s collapse.
Tickner’s exceptional bowling performance was a key factor in England’s disappointing batting display, with six of their top eight batsmen reaching double figures. Jamie Overton’s aggressive 42 off 28 balls was the top score for England, while Tickner’s four wickets for 34 runs proved instrumental in New Zealand’s dominant performance.
England’s captain, Harry Brook, had emphasized the need for a stronger effort after their previous defeat, stating, ‘We need to go a little bit harder.’ Tickner’s impactful return to the New Zealand side significantly contributed to England’s struggles, ultimately leading to their dismissal for 175 runs in 36 overs.
