Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk’s highly anticipated AI-powered online encyclopedia, Grokipedia, officially launched on October 27, 2025, featuring over 885,000 articles. The platform, powered by xAI’s AI chatbot Grok, aims to provide a ‘truthful and independent alternative’ to Wikipedia.
Despite a rocky start with a brief crash shortly after going live, Grokipedia quickly resumed service. Musk has positioned Grokipedia as a competitor to Wikipedia, emphasizing its faster, less biased, and more factual information.
While Grokipedia mirrors Wikipedia’s style, it offers a smaller scope and a more right-leaning slant in some articles. Musk described Grokipedia as ‘a massive improvement over Wikipedia’ and ‘a necessary step towards the truth.’
Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has refuted Musk’s claims of bias in Wikipedia, highlighting the platform’s volunteer-driven editorial model built on transparency and consensus. Grokipedia, on the other hand, relies on AI technology for managing knowledge in real-time.
