New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani Names All-Women Transition…

New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani appoints all-female transition team led by Lina Khan, including veterans of city government and women leaders from previous mayoral administrations.

Newly elected New York Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, has made headlines by announcing an all-female transition team following his historic victory as the first Indian-origin, African-born Muslim to assume the top post. The team comprises women leaders with experience in the administrations of former mayors Bill de Blasio, Eric Adams, and Michael Bloomberg.

During his first briefing after the massive win, Mamdani revealed that Lina Khan, former Federal Trade Commission leader appointed by President Joe Biden in 2021, will serve as a co-chair of the transition team. Khan expressed her excitement, stating, ‘I’m excited to help Zohran build a team that will usher in a new era for New York City and set a new model for Democratic governance.’

The transition team includes veterans of city government who have served under the administrations of current mayor Eric Adams and former mayors Bill de Blasio and Michael Bloomberg. Mamdani emphasized the importance of the transition team, with five women leading the effort, including two former City Hall officials and a former Federal Trade Commission chair.

Addressing the press at the Unisphere in the Queens borough of New York City, Mamdani shared his vision for the future, stating, ‘The poetry of campaigning may have come to a close last night at 9, but the beautiful prose of governing has only just begun.’ The mayor-elect’s commitment to the city was evident as he vowed to stand up for New York against challenges, including those posed by President Trump.
