Multiple schools across the United States are facing delays and closures today due to a fast-moving winter storm sweeping through the Midwest and parts of the East Coast. Heavy snow, icy roads, and low visibility have led to safety-driven schedule changes affecting districts from Indiana to Michigan and the Carolinas.
In East Tennessee, snow and winter weather have resulted in numerous school delays and closures. A Weather Impact Alert was issued for Monday due to the temperature drop and snowfall, prompting many districts to adjust their schedules for safety.
Specifically, in North Carolina, Cumberland County Schools director Rebecca Farley mentioned that schools would open after a two-hour delay today. This decision comes amidst cold temperatures and snow on the ground due to a snowstorm near Lake Michigan. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for states like Chicago, Indianapolis, and North Carolina.
Forecasters are cautioning about persistent chilly conditions and the potential for additional snowfall, especially in higher elevations. Several districts are operating on two-hour delays, while others have opted for full closures or e-learning. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Advisories for many regions, warning commuters to prepare for slick travel conditions during the morning rush.
