Winter weather alerts issued for Northwest with up to 5 inches of snow. Cold front to bring significant cold spell to the Eastern US. Roads in Idaho and Montana impacted by winter storm.

Winter weather alerts have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for parts of the Northwest, warning of hazardous conditions with up to 5 inches of snow expected. Residents and travelers are urged to exercise caution, especially during the morning commute, as some inconveniences to normal activities are anticipated.

AccuWeather meteorologist Adam Douty highlighted a significant cold spell approaching the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and East, potentially the most significant cold period this fall. A map shared by storm chaser Stephen Jones suggests notable temperature departures across the Eastern U.S., with a big-time cold front expected next week.

Roughly a dozen roads in Idaho and Montana have been impacted by a winter storm, prompting a winter weather advisory. NWS meteorologist Travis Booth mentioned that snowfall began in Northwest Montana late Monday afternoon, affecting valleys down to about 2,500 feet in elevation.
